DicomBrowser is a cross-platform DICOM viewer and batch DICOM editor and converter. It's developed by NeuroInformatics Research Group (NRG) at Washington University in St. Louis.
DicomBrowser is a lightweight program but with many capabilities, even though it was released years ago but it's blazing fast and works smoothly on new versions of operating systems as well as the new versions, It does perform very well on old machines. For macOSX it supports Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 and later, I have tested it in MacOSX 10.13 (macOS High Sierra) and it works smoothly without any issues.
File/ Session browser
The user can import many files/ folders with DICOMBrowser with ease, as they will be listed in the side-panel (left), the user can select and view the DICOM file metadata at the right content viewer. The file browsers allow the user better control over his sessions/ patients files as he can perform batch operations on them with ease.
Batch DICOM image editor
With patch session/ folder/ patient selection from the file browser panel (left) the user can batch edit and export DICOM files, with few click DicomBrowser can perform batch file processing for thousands of files at once.
MetaData & DICOM tag editor Editor
DicomBrowser can batch edit metadata for DICOM files either for sessions/ patients or folders, It saves the new files in new folders, or replace the old files. The user can select to keep, delete the metadata from the content panel before exporting/ saving the edited files/ sessions.
DICOM Image viewer
DicomBrowser uses ImageJ Image viewer to view DICOM images, It utilizes it to add viewing tools and measurement tools which benefit the doctors.
Multi-Window DICOM image viewer
DICOM images can be opened in many separate windows, That comes with several advantages and disadvantages, however, DicomBrowser is a DICOM batch editor for files and metadata more than DICOM image viewer.
DICOM image converter
DICOM medical images can be exported using DICOM browser, but it supports single image conversion to several formats including .png, .jpeg, .gif, and several other image formats.
DICOM image sharing
DicomBrowser allows sharing the edited DICOM images through DICOM C-STORE4 (PACS & XNAT) networks.
DicomBrowser is a very lightweight app compared to other DICOM viewers, Its Windows, MacOSX & Linux installation packages are less than 10 MB, Its command-line interface is 12.4 MB (.jar file).
- Windows: runs smoothly from Windows XP through all later versions including Windows 10
- Linux: Though its jar package can be installed easily in any Linux/ Unix distribution that has Java, but there are 2 Linux installation packages for Debian/ Ubuntu-based distributions (.deb), and Fedora package (.rpm).
- Mac OSX: Mac OS (10.5 macOS Leopard or higher)
