OpenCut is an Open-source Alternative to CapCut
What is OpenCut?
OpenCut is a cross-platform video editor currently in its very early alpha stage (only about a month into development). It’s being built for people who love the ease of use of CapCut but are frustrated by the direction that app is taking.
Current Features
- Basic Timeline Editing: Allows for fundamental arrangement of clips on a workspace.
- Cutting and Trimming: Core tools to shorten clips or remove unwanted sections.
- Video Importing: Ability to bring your own video files into the editor.
- No Watermarks: Unlike the free versions of many commercial editors, it does not add branded overlays to your work.
- Cross-Platform Compatibility: Designed to work across different operating systems and platforms.
- Local Processing: Your videos stay on your device rather than being uploaded to a cloud, ensuring better privacy.
- Completely Free: There are no paywalls for features that are typically restricted in other apps.
- Open Source: The code is transparent and community-driven, positioning it as a public alternative to corporate software.
Planned Features (Coming Soon)
The developers are currently working to implement the following:
- Effects and Transitions: Adding visual flair and smooth movements between clips.
- Audio Editing: Tools to manage background music, voiceovers, and sound levels.
- Proper Rendering/Export: More robust and varied options for saving the final video file.
- Advanced Tools: The goal is to eventually match the full feature set of CapCut.
