UAE Advances as a Global Powerhouse in Artificial Intelligence

The UAE continues to strengthen its leadership in artificial intelligence, positioning itself as a global destination for companies and investors interested in this vital sector. This achievement is attributed to the country's forward-thinking vision, significant investments, and strategic partnerships with major global firms.

Global companies have affirmed that the UAE is dedicated to enhancing its investments in AI and advanced technology, recognizing their importance in fostering a prosperous future.

They highlight that these investments align with the UAE’s vision, which prioritizes technology and AI at its core.

Kirill Eftimov, Chief Technology Officer at G42, noted that Microsoft’s recent $1.5 billion investment in G42 underscores global confidence in the UAE's capacity to advance this critical sector. He emphasized that this strategic partnership will accelerate innovation in key areas such as healthcare, education, and energy, further solidifying the UAE’s status as a global AI hub.

Eftimov also pointed out that G42 is committed to developing AI responsibly, aiming to tackle real societal challenges. The establishment of two new research centers in collaboration with Microsoft and partnerships with companies like NVIDIA highlights this commitment to innovation.

These partnerships have contributed to:

  • Attracting investments: The UAE has attracted huge investments in the field of artificial intelligence, which has strengthened its economic position.
  • Building capabilities: The partnerships have worked to build national capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, through training cadres and developing research programs.
  • Developing innovative solutions: These partnerships have contributed to developing innovative solutions in vital areas such as healthcare, education and energy.

Primary Focus on research and development

Experts indicated that the UAE pays great attention to research and development in the field of artificial intelligence, as it works to establish specialized research centers and encourage innovation, and seeks to develop large open-source language models, which contributes to enhancing its competitive capabilities in this field.

In August, Inception, a subsidiary of the G42 Group, launched the large language model (JIS 70B), in addition to 20 other models of different sizes to support Arabic natural language processing.

The JIS 70B model, which was trained on the largest available Arabic dataset, represents a qualitative leap in the field of Arabic natural language processing, and provides unprecedented capabilities for developing artificial intelligence applications in various sectors.

Core42 preceded it in July, launching the Compass 2.0 platform, in collaboration with Qualcomm, which provided enhanced offerings thanks to the Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 Ultra accelerators, designed to deliver high performance, energy efficiency and reduced cost, making them ideal for customers running modern AI workloads.

Investing in Human Resources

Qualified human resources are the cornerstone of the success of any AI strategy, which is why the UAE places great importance on developing national cadres and attracting global experts in this field.

In this regard, Kirill Eftimov said in a statement to WAM: “The UAE ranks third globally in attracting cadres and experts in the field of artificial intelligence, and its commitment to building a highly skilled workforce is a major driver of digital transformation in the country.”

The UAE is therefore a role model in the field of artificial intelligence, having achieved great achievements in record time. Thanks to its ambitious vision, huge investments and strategic partnerships, the UAE is making steady progress towards achieving its goal of being at the forefront of the most advanced countries in this field.
