Joining the Global Game Jam (Bubble 2025) was an exciting opportunity for me to merge my passion for technology and mental health. The event took place in Divizyon Konya, Turkey, and it brought together around 200-300 participants from various fields. As a medical doctor and web developer, I wanted to take this chance to develop something meaningful—a project that would not only be fun but also provide real value to people suffering from ADHD.

What is Global Game Jam?

For those unfamiliar, the Global Game Jam is an event where developers worldwide come together to create games in a short span of time, typically 48 hours. It’s an exciting opportunity for developers to challenge their creativity and skills while being part of a global community.

In Bubble 2025, participants created a diverse range of games, from 2D and 3D to card games and immersive experiences.

The Inspiration Behind Peace of Mind

During the event, I had the chance to talk to friends about my idea: a VR experience designed to help people with ADHD relax and refocus. After hearing their positive feedback, I was encouraged to take this idea and build it out during the game jam.

My goal was to make a tool that would be easily accessible and lightweight, using my web development skills to ensure that anyone—regardless of resources—could benefit from it.

I created Peace of Mind, a minimalist VR experience designed to help people relax and focus, specifically targeting ADHD patients and tech workers who often experience stress and burnout.

Key Features of Peace of Mind

The game is based on a simple, calming principle: bubbles. These bubbles emit ambient sounds that users can interact with, creating a relaxing space to reset their minds.

While there is relaxing classical music playing in the background, it is initially covered by the ambient noise of the bubbles. You need to pop the bubbles to make the relaxing music more prominent and increase its volume, enhancing the relaxing experience.

The game has three main modes, each designed for different devices and experiences:

1. Desktop Mode (Browser-based Experience)

In desktop mode, users walk around on their computer screen and pop bubbles, with each bubble triggering a soothing sound. This mode is ideal for those who want a quick mental break while working at their desk.

2. Mobile AR Mode

The AR mobile version allows users to stretch and rotate in their chairs, popping bubbles that help alleviate physical tension. This mode targets common problems like tech neck and rounded shoulders, encouraging users to engage in quick stretches while enjoying the experience.

3. VR Mode

For users with access to VR headsets, this immersive mode offers a 3D environment where users can turn around and interact with the bubbles. It’s the most engaging of the three modes and is perfect for those looking for a deeper, more calming experience.

Overcoming Challenges

The development of Peace of Mind wasn’t without its challenges. The main hurdle was ensuring that the game remained accessible, low-stress, and non-overstimulating. To achieve this, I kept the visuals and sounds minimal, avoiding any complex mechanics or intense interactions that could create anxiety.

As a result, the game has proven to be a calming experience for everyone who tested it, including 19 participants who provided valuable feedback. The game has achieved its goal of helping users relax, focus, and reset their minds.

HMZA on Instagram: “Peace of mind, my VR, AR contribution for Global Game Jam Thank you. @divizyon_org Special thanks to Onur bey for mentoring, MasterKebap for joining at the last minute. And for @b.usrad.ogru @mbartudgn @musab_dinc_ for testing. It is a VR experience, But I also made it work as a semi Augmented Reality game from mobile, And it can serve as a background ambient sound player from your browser with dynamic mode to set sounds from the browser. The idea was to utilize VR and AR to ease our mind with minimal visual and sound stimulation as possible and solve the #ADHD issues of playing a song over and over again by attaching random ambient sound with a background streaming music. @globalgamejam thank you for the concept “Bubbles”. Special thanks to my close friend @haksemin And for my abi, friend, and mentor @zdavatz”

What's Next for Peace of Mind?

The journey doesn’t end here. I have several exciting ideas to expand and enhance Peace of Mind. While the initial version was focused on relaxation, the plan is to develop more experiences that target various aspects of mental health and ADHD management.

New Modes and Features:

I plan to add new activities to the game, focusing on helping people organize their thoughts and manage their fast-thinking brains. For example, the mobile AR mode will include more activities that focus on improving posture, reducing tension, and encouraging relaxation in tech workers, who often deal with issues like tech neck and rounded shoulders.

As a medical doctor and web developer, my goal is to use game development and web technologies to improve mental well-being. The future of this project is bright, and I’m excited to explore new ways to use immersive technology to promote healing.

This project was just the beginning, and I look forward to expanding Peace of Mind into a broader suite of experiences. With a focus on mental health, tech wellness, and creating accessible solutions, I’m excited to continue exploring how game development and web technologies can heal, restore, and improve lives.
