Hacker News Summary is an open-source project that uses AI technology, primarily the ChatGPT gpt-3.5-turbo model, to extract summaries and illustrations from Hacker News articles.

If ChatGPT is unavailable, the local GoogleT5 model is used. The service provides clear and easily understandable summaries.

• 🕘: submission time - a human-readable time indicating when the post was submitted

• 🔗: source of the news - where the news originated
• 📰: summary model - which model is used to generate the summary, options are OpenAI, GoogleT5 and Prefix

How does it work?

The Hacker News Summary is a static site that periodically parses news articles from Hacker News, extracts main content using a score algorithm, finds suitable illustrations, generates summaries using OpenAI API or a local model, and deploys the rendered template to GitHub Pages.
